Update-Medical Smart Chart

Dear Friends,

The Medical Smart Chart program is closed due to lack of funds.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you.  However, with the limited resources we have and because we wish to be good stewards of our limited resources, we have made a strategic decision to focus on the two pillars of our mission statement – education and research.

In keeping with those goals, we will be adding new segments, new information and new features to the website.

Also we will continue to raise funds for the last round of research needed to publish data on immunotherapy blockers specific to prostate cancer.  We hope to be able to have the funds to push forward with last part of the study in 2017.  If you would like to help us reach our goal, please call 619-906-4700 or mail a donation to PCREF at 6823 Deer Hollow Place, San Diego, CA 92120.

We’ll keep you posted on exciting news from PCREF.

If you want to have your information to be sent to you, please provide an email and your phone number , so we can send the data in a secure way. Email your request to DrBarken@Gmail.com

Radiation and Hormonal Blockade combination for Prostate Cancer- Caution

Standard approach is to give hormonal deprivation treatment for a period of 6 months in conjunction with radiation treatment on the prostate. It is believed to increase survival according to studies. Recent study by D’Amico in the American Journal of Medicine (JAMA Sept 2015) demonstrates better survival of patients who were in the intermediate to severe comorbidity groups by undergoing only radiation without additional concurrent hormonal ablation for 6 months.
